Former Open winner Paul Lawrie and Stephen Gallacher (ex-winner of the Dunhill Links) were among the stars who took part in the European Golf and Leisure show in Aberdeen over the weekend, sponsored by the Press & Journal Newspaper group. Both handed on golf tips to thousands of eager golfers who attended the event which featured indoor ranges, golf simulators, trick shot shows and talks by PGA professionals.
Gallacher was giving quick lessons in exchange for donations to the show's main charity Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, helping to raise nearly £2,000.
Said Lawrie: “This show puts the north-east on the golfing map. It’s important that people realise that we have a lot of great courses in this part of Scotland.”
Indeed many north-east Scotland golf clubs sold memberships from stands.
The show was organised by Golfers Scotland with Inverurie-based George Walker Event Management.
Said Mr Walker: “I got together with Golfers Scotland (there are about 70 courses within a short drive of Aberdeen) because there was no golf show in the north-east and Aberdeenshire has a lot to offer. We're delighted by the response, so this will become an annual event."
